MARVEL’S AVENGERS DELAYED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 4TH

Announced in early 2017 via a brief teaser, the Square-Enix published, Crystal Dynamics developed – with support from Eidos Montreal – Marvel’s Avengers made its grand debut at last year’s E3 with its debut trailer. Among many things, including the cast of playable characters and a general impression of how they would possibly control, the video gave a release date of May 15th, 2020. Today it was revealed by Crystal Dynamics that their game will miss that target date and will now arrive on September 4th on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Google’s Stadia streaming service. When you search for the official word from Crystal Dynamics, a gateway timeout message appears, but outlets like IGN have managed to capture the message:

“When we set out to bring you our vision for Marvel’s Avengers, we committed to delivering an original story-driven campaign, engaging co-op, and compelling content for years to come,

To that end, we will spend this additional development time focusing on fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve.

We apologize for the delay. We’re confident it will be worth the wait,” reads the end of the announcement.”

Delays will forever be a tough pill to swallow, especially for an anticipated game like Marvel’s Avengers, but solace can be taken that the parties behind the project – Marvel Games, Square-Enix and Crystal Dynamics – see the potential in the game and don’t want to rush it out to market like so many licensed games before it. More importantly though, it hopefully means that the many people working on the game will avoid harmful crunch.

Though this news seemingly came out of nowhere, it’s not exactly surprising. When it was first shown off, Marvel’s Avengers received the exact opposite reaction Square-Enix was expecting with many taking issues with the character’s appearance and somewhat safe design. Since then the game has been shown off at other conventions with improvements from the E3 build, but Square-Enix has largely been quiet in the past few months with any Marvel’s Avengers news.

In the meantime while you’re waiting for the game, prologue material like comic book tie-ins and a novel set before the game will still be arriving at their normally scheduled time.
