Shaun Escayg, the creative director and writer of last year’s Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, seems to have traded the likes of Nathan Drake, Chloe Frazer and the post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us for Captain America’s shield and Thor’s enchanted hammer. Escayg joined the prolific Naughty Dog during the development of The Last of Us and has had his hands in every project that they’ve worked on since 2013 and while small in number, that includes the likes of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and its stand alone expansion. Escayg announced his departure from Naughty Dog via his personal Twitter profile, and then on his Instagram account posted the iconic logo of Marvel’s Avengers. This has led to speculation that Shaun is joining the team at Crystal Dynamics who are presently working on an Avengers game that was unveiled with a brief teaser video early last year that showed little of what the game actually is.
If the team at Crystal Dynamics has indeed courted Escayg, that’s a pretty big win for the studio and Square-Enix’s “Avengers Project”. Undertaking a franchise as big as the Avengers and translating it into a video game is no easy task, but I’m sure scoring someone who has worked on some of the most influential games over the past decades just made things a whole lot easier.
