Credit to commenter NazKhidhir for bringing this to my attention.
Not long after publishing my article about E3 predictions, some speculated news came to my attention as to what DC titles WB Games have up there sleeve with one being plausable, and the other sounding too bold to be true. From WCCFTech who reported the news from a French blog Addicted to Series, one of the games being worked on by WB Games Montreal is a co-op third-person shooter starring the Suicide Squad. This is something that I can see happening as DC’s own Geoff Johns has stated that a game starring the Squad has been in development for some time and hints about the forming of the group were dropped in both Batman: Arkham Origins as well as Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate. There’s also the matter of the film coming out in August.
The other game that is rumoured is a new Batman game that sounds very intriguing but too risky for what both DC and Warner Bros. at large have planned for their stable of heroes. The report states that the next Batman game will feature not Bruce Wayne under the cowl, but his son, Damian. The game is also set to address a complaint in the Arkham series about Gotham City feeling lifeless with a day-to-night cycle and a city that’s actually populated. The Batcycle is also supposed to make an appearance as well as a Batcave that can be upgraded and customized.
Though I would love to see a Damian Wayne led Batman game, and it could almost make sense given the rather ambiguous hidden ending in Batman: Arkham Knight, I can’t see this as being the next thing for the Batman game franchise. DC just rebooted their line of books and quickly took Jim Gordon out of the Batsuit to put Bruce Wayne back in. They also have a new cinematic Bruce Wayne who just made his first appearance this year in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, played by Ben Affleck who is also set to star, co-write and direct a stand-alone Batman feature. If this does turn out to be true, I’ll give huge kudos to the people who greenlit this project and let it happen, but I would expect a younger Bruce Wayne in the next series of Batman video games over someone else in the cowl.
