PREPARE TO BE SHELL-SHOCKED: NO LOCAL CO-OP FOR TMNT: MUTANTS IN MANHATTAN

Platinum’s upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan looks like the most promising game in the TMNT video game franchise since the Konami days on the SNES. One feature that the beloved 8 and 16-bit entires will have over Mutants in Manhattan though will be one that’s sorely missed: local co-op. Though you will be able to play online over your service of choice with up to three friends, local co-op, according to the game’s producer Robert Cokey in an interview with Kinda Funny Games, was simply not possible. The reason? The game would not be able to run two characters at the same time on one system without a drop in performance. From Conkey:

We actually really wanted to do local couch co-op, but the problem is if you do, then you have to split the screen, and suddenly your 60FPS situation gets a lot worse, and it also starts limiting, technically, the things you can do, so we had to go with online only.
