MARCH IS BATMAN V. SUPERMAN MONTH ON COMIC GAMERS ASSEMBLE

In March 2016, cinematic history will be made. For the first time in a live-action film, two of DC’s, nay comics, biggest icons Batman and Superman will share the screen and square off in Warner Bros. Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. For each Friday for the month of March, I’ll be looking at games where the Caped Crusader and the Last Son of Krypton have thrown down, as well as another thematic game that I missed when I was reviewing Superman games in 2013 leading up to the release of Man of Steel. The month will look as follows:

MARCH 4TH: JUSTICE LEAGUE TASK FORCE: Though a Justice League game and perhaps more thematically reviewed when the first live-action Justice League film arrives, Sunsoft’s Justice League Task Force was not only the first game that featured both Batman and Superman together, but the first where the two could be pitted against one another in one-on-one combat.

MARCH 11TH: MORTAL KOMBAT VS. DC UNIVERSE: Before they were Netherrealm Studios and owned by WB Games, this was Ed Boon and company’s first attempt at crafting a fighting game featuring characters from the DC Universe.

MARCH 18TH: WATCHMEN: THE END IS NIGH: Before Zack Snyder directed a Superman film and went on to becoming Warner Bros. go to director for all things DC, he directed a film based on one of the most influential graphic novels of all time: Watchmen. Whether it needed or not, it also received a two-episode video game tie in titled Watchmen: The End is Nigh.

MARCH 25TH: INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US ULTIMATE EDITION: Superman and Batman have been featured in games together before, and even fought each other, but never in a game like Injustice: Gods Among Us. This game features a story that touches on the greatest fear that both heroes and villains in the DC Universe share: What happens when Superman decides he no longer wants to walk on the side of the angels?
