SORA, DONALD AND…SPIDER-MAN? “NOTHING’S OFF-LIMITS” FOR KINGDOM HEARTS III

A lot has changed in the twelve years that have passed since the original Kingdom Hearts was released on the PS2 back in 2012: I was in my mere first year of my university degree, the PS3/Xbox 360, let alone the PS4 and Xbox One, were mere pipe dreams and Disney, well, they went and treated themselves with a lot of well known properties, namely Marvel Comics and Star Wars.

With Kingdom Hearts III finally in development after years of spin-offs and remakes, curious fans have wondered whether or not Sora and company could potentially be interacting with worlds other than those based on Disney films and TV series, mainly the two above mentioned franchises, and according to character and game designer Tai Yasue, it is indeed a possibility. A report over on Kotaku’s UK Division indicates that for the Kingdom Hearts development team, nothing is “off-limits”:

”I can’t go into specifics, but there’s a LOT of new Disney stuff and we have our plates full,…Theres a lot to consider – we’re looking at all of Disney, the new ones as well, they have a lot of pull and draw. They’re all under consideration. Nothing’s off-limits, we’re considering all of the worlds. There are so many wonderful concepts. We’re happy about that, but at the same time it’s really tough to choose.”

I haven’t been a Kingdom Hearts fan for quite some time now, as the series has gotten a little convoluted from what it started out as and the fact that the story hasn’t developed much since 2006’s Kingdom Hearts II hasn’t helped that. I won’t deny, however, that being  able to team up with Thor on Asgard, or the Guardian’s of the Galaxy in space, not to mention a property like Big Hero 6 that lies firmly in between Marvel and Disney would get me more excited than I’ve ever been for the long delayed sequel.

Do you think that Kingdom Hearts should venture into the pages of Marvel and Star Wars or focus on traditional Disney properties?
