For those not keeping up to what’s going on in the pages of the Spider-Man comics, an event is starting next week titled “Spider-Verse” in which spider men and woman from across time and space are coming together to face their pending extinction in the form a group of villains who consume “spider-totems” (those with spider-based powers.) Leading up to the event, a five-issue mini-series called “Edge of Spider-Verse” was released where each issue was devoted to a character that will have a major impact in the upcoming conflict. The second issue spotlighted a world where Gwen Stacy was bit by the spider that granted Peter Parker his amazing abilities. The issue was adopted so well by fans that people are already cosplaying her unique outfit and an ongoing series starring the character has been fast tracked for early 2015.
Capitalizing on the success of “Spider-Gwen,” the character will soon be available as an unlockable character in Gameloft’s similarly themed endless runner game, Spider-Man Unlimited. This will mark the new take on the characters first appearance in a video game and as a playable character. There’s been no firm release date as to when Gwen will be coming to the game, other than a few short weeks as part of the recent Episode 4 update that adds the Sandman and 25 new missions to the free-to-play game. If you’ll recall from earlier this month, Marvel used a similar tactic for the new female Thor, debuting her in Marvel Puzzle Quest.
